It’s All About Performance
November 19, 2003
I’m going to FR!NGE myself! Laurier’s annual Fringe Festival brings together many edgy and wonderfully talented people, and this year I’ll get to take part in this artistic orgy. I’ll be an idealistic revolutionary who confronts capitalist pigs in my friend’s play, “Ivy League Education.” Today I received the script, and although it needs some work, it will certainly give me the chance to act fiery and revolutionary.
And that’s not the only good thing that happened today. The Debating Society is showing me some love despite my disastrous results at McMaster. They want me to be part of a show debate against University of Waterloo two weeks from now, and I’m dying to do it. Since I debated well in my first two tournaments, they hope I will perform well again.
Secretly, I’m more than a little anxious about this. The show debate will be big: the Deans and half the school is invited. Even though I performed fairly well in my first two tournaments, now that all eyes are set on me I’m afraid I’ll be tongue-tied and twisted. Luckily, I have an awesome partner. Now all we need is an awesome case. We’ll be debating ethics and the Canadian Government: politics confronts me again.
On that note, today I took a little test to determine my political orientation: I’m on the far left when it comes to economics (-7.12) and leaning strongly towards anarchy when it comes to social issues (-7.08). Sweet!
Posted by Tudor at 11:10 PM in Friends & Lovers | TrackBackGlad to hear that things are falling into place. I look forward to seeing this play, as many interesting and entertaining people (Thomas T, Frasier, Bernard, Tudor, etc) seem to be part of the cast.
I took the test and scored about the same as nelson mandela. Go me.
Posted by: ha on November 20, 2003 at 01:00 PMYou’re in the same quadrant as me, ha, but a bit less extreme. This is not surprising since I’m having a hard time finding people as extreme as myself ;).
And Brian is right: the play will be interesting. Katie West, the Arts Editor, is in it too, and we all have challenging roles. I think she’ll be one of the cynics I get to oppose. Oh, and you Brian will simply love the Che shirt I’ll wear for my part.
As a final note, today I just found this review of last year’s Fringe Festival, written by Katie West.

Economic Left/Right: -6.25
Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.62
so obviously, Tudor is a dangerous extemist, whereas I am the porridge that Goldlocks ate.
Posted by: Dillon on November 20, 2003 at 05:54 PMOh political compass economically I was -4.75 and on the authoritarian/libertarian I was -6.85. yeah I really hate authority and the government but I do sort of love money ;)
