The army supply store has everything I need to jumpstart the revolution. This morning I bought myself a beret, and I would have bought a military jacket too until Heather reminded me that nobody at Laurier cares enough to start a revolution. Walking around like Che Guevara will not help me forward my political ideas in Laurier’s conservative climate.
So I’m left trying to blend my beret into the somewhat conservative image I’m shaping for myself. Now that I care more about image than substance, I guess I have become a real politician. Fuck! I should get my political blog off the ground and concern myself with ideas instead.

Posted by: HermitKing on January 24, 2004 at 10:31 PMYou’ll find a couple of them if you look in the yellow pages under military goods. We ended up going to ABC Military Surplus in downtown Kitchener. Let me know what your impression of the other stores is if you end up making your way there :).

Posted by: lou-lee on January 25, 2004 at 09:48 PMIt’s so true, so true: image becomes everything. But I’ve been trying to rectify that by starting the political blog today:

I am with you. I believe a revolution is EXACTLY what Laurier needs. A kick in the ass wake up call to show the general public that we, as students, don’t have to put up with all the CRAP that we do (quality of education, policy, you know the stuff).
However I am also aware that Laurier is not ‘rebellious’. I say your best bet is sticking to a conservative campaign with key ideas that should UNDERLINE your rebellious side (of course in a conservative kind of way).
The people who are demanding reform are usually Arts students stuck in a conservatve school, so their calls (unfortunately) go unheard. Rebelliousness is exactly what we need, but my two failed rebellions forced me to stick to a straight and narrow path (as you suggested) if I want to do any good at all.
I no longer call for revolution, but for “improvement,” and instead of being militant, I’m proactive.
