Call me Crazy

February 10, 2004

It doesn’t take much to convince people that I’m crazy: I just have to say a couple of objectionable things while waving my arms, and everyone around me will assume the worst. Twenty minutes after I sat down in my squiggly chair in the boardroom, I managed make at least three people doubt my sanity.

I know this because at 6:20 some guy in the audience whispered behind me, “Tudor, you’re crazy.” Just before that, Steve Welker, the president-elect, said something about my excessive passion.

But today was a good day to be passionate. We elected a chair and a vice-chair for the new board. One of the people interested in the position of vice-chair stood up and talked passionately about unity, conformity, and groupthink (using slightly different terminology).

“What about diversity?” I cried. “I want open discussions!”

“Tudor, you’re one of the most creative people in this room and I would never censor you,” he replied, adding, “We should do things differently.”

He won, which made me glad since now we’ll both find out just how creative I can get. Alysia is already giving me ideas. “Bring up a motion that no woman in her period shall be allowed to enter the Union building,” she suggested jokingly.

If the board finds me mentally unfit, will they take away my squiggly chair?

Matt Gouett is the new vice-chair (I forgot to mention that above).

If the board finds you mentally unfit, they’ll make you Vice-Chair.
