Stay Calm
February 23, 2004
Early this evening, Kristine and I jumped on a bus and traveled half way across the city to interview The Home Team, a Canadian Indie rock band currently touring in Southern Ontario. We met them in the Circus Room before their show, and after the awkward introductions, the four young men took turns telling us about their lives and their music.
And it was a pleasure hearing about their travels across Canada, and their love for Regina, where the music scene is hot and the people energizing. After the interview, while waiting for a bus to take us back to the university, Kristine and I agreed that they are some of the nicest people we’ve ever met. I’m going to review their newest release, Stay Calm, for ClubLaurier.ca.
The review will hopefully make up for the fact that I had to miss their concert. I felt bad leaving right after the interview, but I had a performance of my own to worry about.
Half an hour after I got back on campus, I threw off my pants and underwear and for a panic-stricken moment I stood naked and trembling behind a wooden panel, not knowing what to do. I eventually grabbed a paper towel and stepped out onto the stage roaring, “This is not a towel!”
Katie West looked at me and laughed. “Yes it is,” she said.
Despite my hesitation and the forgotten lines, the dress rehearsal for our Fringe play went off better than expected. And me showing up naked was just the icing on the cake. If you too want to see my ass, get yourself a ticket for Fringe (our play is on Thursday night and Saturday afternoon).
