Gmail Rhapsodies

June 30, 2004

They played me songs and wrote me poems, and all I had to give them in return were some lousy Gmail invitations. People are wonderfully generous.

For Gmail, Sygmoral played for me a piano version of Lou Reed’s Perfect Day. Jascha made a quick and dirty remix of the same song — he wanted to open my senses, he said. And Dionne wrote me a poem about stormy waters that goes something like this:

Turmoil, Peace, Serenity?
In you I see all three
Fighting to break loose from the suffocation.
But within a fingertip’s grasp lies
Life, Strength, Rebirth,
The fine line to which I cling desperately for hope.

Is letting go giving up, giving in, or giving freedom to that which lies within?
Lost and crying, I see you on the other side waiting, wanting, needing —
At the very, very edge

I still have a handful of invites to give away, so make me a song and I will love you for ever on the other side of that edge.

Yes endless repetition of ‘problems’ in the remix makes it hillarious. And your (?) piano version is nothing short of staggering :) — many thanks!
