Meetings can be Fun

September 24, 2004

We walked down King Street after the board meeting howling with delight. Everyone talked at the same time, faces bright, gesticulating wildly.

“That was the best board meeting ever,” Dave declared.

“I finally felt useful,” Nick said.

And I missed most of it. The meeting was scheduled during my 10:30 class, and while I was gone exciting things happened. Steve Welker, the WLUSU president, was caught violating his own alcohol policy and then lying about it. People got angry. There were calls for censure.

When I finally showed up we started discussing Fraser’s excellent motion to allow underagers back into the Turret. We marshalled facts and wonderful arguments, while the opposition suggested that sucking on pennies would defeat the breathalyser test we wanted administered. Their arguments didn’t carry much weight, Fraser’s motion passed, and we were elated.

To celebrate, I’m going out drinking tonight and I won’t stop indulging until Monday morning (I’m spending the weekend with my Martha at a wine festival).

He was (self-admittedly) drinking on a gondola ride in the BC mountains (ie. in a unlicensed area without propoer insurance or the proper forms filled out), which allegedly is a violation of the Risk Management alcohol policy.

He volunteered this information at the board meeting?

Initially he did not volunteer the information at the board meeting - he lied about it. Only after Anthony Piscitelli called him on it, did he fess up.

This week’s Cord explains everything wonderfully! Pick up a copy and read the Steve Welker drinking extravaganza ;).

As a bonus, you’ll also find out that Mike McMahon has inappropriate feelings.
