Sticks and String

March 04, 2005

Because it was a sunny Friday afternoon we picked up a bottle of wine and stopped by Zellers afterwards.

“Let’s get some knitting supplies,” I said.

“Do you want to lean how to knit?” she asked.

“No, that’s crazy talk. I just want to poke you with neddles.”

We elbowed aside three white-haired grannies to get some yellow yarn. Ten minutes later we were sitting in a run-down diner where she showed me how to weave with sticks. I poked her; her hands, full of surprises, gave life to what looks increasingly like a yellow scarf.

Wonders! From now on, this will become a goddamn knitting blog.

i miss the zellers that used to be frequentable in kingston. now it’s gone - we still have our local variant, S & R - but sometimes, you just need the wonders of zellers to make the day just right.

Hurray for knitting!

Knitting can be manly, too, you know—but never ungendered, apparently. There was a time when it was considered “man’s work” in the textile cottage industry in medieval England, eh? Women would typically do the spinning and weaving. =P

I’d like to knit a womb for choice, for the women in Bush’s America… knitty has a nifty pattern:

Then it occurred to me that perhaps I might like to knit my own reproductive organs… I’m pretty sure I could figure it out, how hard can it be to knit a cock and balls?

Yea, I’d lay it on the steps to the Supreme Court, but… Scalia would probably just think it’s some demented kind of sock.

I have always wanted to learn how to knit. I am envious - Knitting is going to be the next Big Thing. I can feel it.

I am also on this knitting bandwagon - I have to say, its pretty enjoyable - a new form of art to explore! The idea of knitting a womb is fabulous!

Knitters everywhere unite — and create wombs and maybe a warm pair of balls (thanks for the idea Max).
