Spring Surprises Us
March 29, 2005
Spring crept upon us while we were eating frozen yogurt on the patio. Amy was quietly craving a smoke; I had a spoon in my mouth and a knife in my hand. And when I looked up from the duct tape wallet I was making, spring was suddenly everywhere. There were children playing and boys in t-shirts took muscular strides in the quad. Sunshine. Naked bellies. The smell of rotten earth. Someone threw a ball clumsily and giggled.
I held the spoon in my mouth for a long time, unsure of what to say. I yearned for some better way to welcome spring, something more meaningful than making duct tape wallets on a patio. Next year I’ll be ready for spring with a bottle of booze, sandals, and mud between my toes.

Posted by: Laura on March 30, 2005 at 12:03 AMgood plan on the duct tape wallet. i had one back in the day, but i could never get the pockets deep enough or secure enough to properly hold cards without spilling them all over the place.
and you know how when you buy a fridge or a verylargeteevee at an appliance store and they put a “name of appliance store” sticker on the box when they load it into your pickup truck so that when you’re cruising through town people will notice it and say, “hey, let’s us go spend cash and credit on big heavy shiny things down at HeavyShine Depot (or name of appliance store)?”
well i stole a roll of those stickers from my employers and made a wallet out of them. it was kind of a bad idea cause i could never take my wallet out of my pocket at work for fear of being fired.
