Bug Out

July 10, 2005

It takes a special kind of crazy to bike 20 km in the summer heat to show up to a car show, but that’s precisely what I did today. Luckily, the people exhibiting their cars were in no position to laugh at me as I pulled up to the gate sweaty, smelly, and flinging feces. They were all driving Volkswagens — VW drivers are all peculiar in their own way. And they also have an awful taste in music.

Megan said that Bug Out is the car show of champions. It is also the longest running Volkswagen show in Canada. I’ve never seen so much shining chrome in one place, or so many hippies approaching retirement.

Shiny things and hippies are two of my favourite things. And after my ride today so are Volkswagens — they look sexy as hell. If I wasn’t so against cars I’d probably get me one.

I didn’t get to go.. I got up at 6 am and went into the garage and got a bucket and soap.. Then I opened the garage up and found that my sister had decided to park across the driveway and block everyone in. I went to go find her keys, and as it turned out both she and her keys were gone and did not return until 3 pm. But maybe you saw my uncle David. He would have been sitting in a kitchen tent, behind a green and white bus.. with a tiny square pop top (He said he re-painted his car, but it probably still looked like it was falling apart).
I was very disappointed that I didn’t get to go, and spent the whole day pouting.

Next year I will be there come hell or high water. It would have taken me like 2-3 hours to bike there… Plus I don’t have a bike anymore because my dad sold mine when I went to school. But either way I will get there next year. I refuse to miss two in a row.
