Laura Feeds Me, Keeps Me Warm
August 07, 2005

So Laura came by from a wedding at two in the morning with beef, and potatoes, and hydrangea on the side. She’s wonderful like that. I said, “Just throw everything in the microwave.” “But it won’t taste as good,” she said. “Nuclear energy makes everything taste yummy,” I said, “even hydragea.”

“My eyes stayed hard now on the billboard in the distance. It characterized a female form holding a child in her arms. The image was framed such that the baby’s face was in the bottom left-hand corner of the image and the mother’s face, down-turned and warm-looking, filled a great portion of the upper-right. There was a soft, radiant glow around the mother’s eyes, an artistic effect, that had the appearance of drawing together strands which reached towards the baby’s eyes. Between the mother and babe were the words ‘Olafsson and Kartwell Energy’ and the light strands from the mother’s eyes collected about the logo and appeared to arc all around it, before lacing out in one jagged, lightning-like fork into the baby’s eyes. I took a long sip from the mug, my face expressionless.”
