That cowboy hat you wore last Tuesday, which you claim to have bought for $5 in a second-hand store, now has a narrative life of its own. This worries me. Soon it will take over your head and demand equal rights and a fan club. I suspect that it wasn’t you who found the hat, but the hat who found you.
