All Lies
November 05, 2005
Though the Transfers Restaurant serves luke-warm coffee from large vats in Kitchener’s second-rate bus terminal, they still make the dubious claim they have “the best coffee in town.” I drank their coffee — it’s not that great.

Posted by: Jason on November 05, 2005 at 10:51 PMSecond-rate? Have you ever seen Barrie’s bus terminal? Kitchener’s terminal is palatial in comparison.

Posted by: sra on November 06, 2005 at 01:51 AMQuick poll:
Who DOES serve the best coffee in KW? I mean, my default button is Tims, but there’s got to be better than that… and don’t even go to Starbucks… I’ve had their coffe and woah, it’s just icky.
Timothy’s Coffee has the best coffee in KW. hands down. it’s fresh, and it stands on its own without sugar, milk or cream.
Tarfucks is taking over the world! Where I live, (CA) every old mom and pop place is bulldozed to make room for a bleedin’ Starbucks and/or Quizno’s. Do we really need a freaking Quizbucks on every damn corner? Plus, their coffee sucks! (My rant for the day.)
Posted by: jules on November 06, 2005 at 03:25 PMMy vote for best coffee goes to Cafe 1842’s Javanilla. Delicious. The fair trade coffee at Yogen Fruz is also great.
Posted by: Carly on November 06, 2005 at 03:35 PMI’m in agreement with Tara and Carly on this one, my vote lies somewhere in between Timothy’s and Cafe 1842, with Timothy’s a bit in the lead (its always, always good no matter what you do to it - and even better when you get it free after answering the trivia question correctly [sometimes with the help of your Nana]), but Cafe 1842 a close second (mainly because of the atmosphere and fond memories I’ve attached to that place). The fair trade stuff at Yogen Fruz on campus I recall being pretty great too, of course.
I’ve just analysed coffee a bit too much there.
So far, in London, everthing is bad.
Posted by: Laura on November 06, 2005 at 04:12 PMI too am partial to Cafe 1982’s coffee. It’s yummy and good for you.
Posted by: Tudor on November 06, 2005 at 04:13 PMMy vote for best KW coffee is the Kona Coffee at A Matter of Taste in downtown Kitchener. It’s from the Kona Mountain in Hawaii, and it’s amazing.
Posted by: Tina on November 06, 2005 at 04:26 PMCafe 1982 would be the year I was born, in a cafe. Cafe 1842 is the place we used to go to play Scrabble and offend scowling waitresses and passersby.
Posted by: Laura on November 06, 2005 at 06:24 PMIsn’t Cafe 1842’s coffee “Seatle’s Best” brand, which would also be Starbucks supplier? I think…
Posted by: CaptainPoultry on November 07, 2005 at 12:43 AMIt’s remarkable how quickly the 1842 has become a favourite spot to hang out. That plce hasn’t even been there but two years or so, and pretty well everyone I know calls it a favourite. It’s a favourite of mine too, although more because of the tea… strangely, I don’t think I’ve ever had a coffee there. I’m putting that on my list of things to do this week. As far as Timothy’s goes, I’m in agreement. I had a coffee there about a month back with a banana chocolate muffin and it was a lovely experience. :)
Posted by: martin on November 07, 2005 at 08:47 AMWell… unlike Williams, they don’t have signs telling you that you have to leave after 45 minutes, and I’ve sat there for hours withoug buying anything… and nobody bothered me. (Unlike Moody Blues) Big, big kudos for 1842.
Posted by: spindriftdancer on November 08, 2005 at 12:16 PMI HATE when people lie about coffee. It really burns me up.
