Scenes From The City (Part II)

November 11, 2005

You know the city you live in is bizarro when the story of Mr. Ristic dominates London’s front pages for days. In 2002 Mr. Ristic put on this tinfoil shit and duct-tape jacket and then proceeded to hit his neighbour over the head with a crowbar. Repeatedly.

And of course, the story only gets stranger. When Mr. Ristic invited the cops into his apartment, they discovered all the walls covered in tinfoil. The only thing in his bedroom was a freezer also covered in tinfoil. And if that wasn’t enough, on the night of the attack Mr. Rinsic “had wrapped copper wires around his body, anchoring them to his fingers, toes and genitals” (link).

And because London is a fucked-up sort of place, the entire trial is taking place in French. “Ristic’s trial is believed to be the first criminal jury trial held in London completely in French,” quips the London Free Press.

Sometimes I think I live among madmen and crazy people.

this reminds me of that episode of the simpsons in which bart thinks that Major League Baseball is using satellites to spy on him so he dresses in tin foil (and it turns out they really were spying on him)

It’s good to see that the media has stopped sensationalizing mental illness.

*Ristic sat impassively in the witness box yesterday wearing a three-piece grey suit.*

But, was it a three piece grey suit made out of…..let’s say….TIN FOIL????
