Machines That Bite

November 29, 2005

And now let’s talk of happy things, like monkeys, malls, and kings. Last night we went, my love and I, to the mall on the edge of town to acquire things (scarves), eat pseudo-Chinese food (yum), and watch movies about hairy boys.

Holy Simulacra! Everything felt unreal, especially the cute, pink gloves in the girl’s department (they felt like leather). I tell ya, malls fuck with my mind. The mall where I work, for instance, features paintings of Nelson Mandela ridding a wheelchair. Alysia insists he looks nothing like Nelson Mandela, but look at him. Just look at him!

In malls nothing is real. Not even the machines that bite.

Malls remind me of the “Dawn of the Dead” movies. I used to work in one as my 2nd job, and got so burned out by the Xmas- decor-coming-out-after-Halloween-bullshit, that I rarely go to a mall, unless I absolutely have to. (maybe once a year).

I’m not sure it that’s Mandela or Mr. Dress-up, but what’s with the lady in the Greek chiton and superman cape pushing the wheelchair???
