Call The Cops, Someone is Being Sedated

January 01, 2006

Yesterday’s New Year’s party was probably the most sedated one I’ve ever been to — Laura and I sat around with a bunch of university professors listening to Pink Floyd and eating cookies. That, however, didn’t dissuade the cops from showing up right before midnight.

“Can you please keep down the stomping?” the woman in uniform.

“There was no stomping.”

“Oh. I don’t actually care about the stomping. This is just stupid.”

After the cops left, we drank wine much of the night and in the morning wandered the streets under fantastic television skies. The new year felt much like science fiction.

If it makes you feel any better, this year was the most sedate I can remember for me too. I was summarily abandoned by everyone I know and so I got together at my place with another of my friends who was also abandoned by everyone she knew. We two beautiful losers spent new year’s watching Freaks And Geeks, eating pizza, drinking hot chocolate with Bailey’s and barely noticing as one year passed to the next.

I went to bed at 10:30… with a head cold… and so did Chris… and we slept. *sigh* Good thing I’m not a party animal or anything. But, maybe I can make some more carob chip cookies and cocoa and drown my sorrows(:
