Elvis Cruises Down King St.

July 16, 2006

Friday night was Cruise Night in downtown Kitchener, the annual event where 300 old cars circle around the city, making downtown streets resemble used car lots. This year, aside from cars, Cruise Night also featured medieval soldiers and tiny Elvis impersonators. Just because.

I was watching men in shiny armour hit each other with sticks when Fran snuck up behind me and pinched my behind. I screamed like a little girl. She laughed and took me inside the City Hall, where she talked the security guard into escorting us to the 10th floor observation deck. From there, the whole city suddenly opened before us. We saw dead things, living things, old cars, and hot-air balloons blowing up in the sky.

By the time we returned to the courtyard, men in armour were still hitting each other with sticks, and King St. still felt like a used car lot. We ran away from it all into a nearby bar to drink deeply and talk of cleavage.

The local SCA guys were doing ‘battle chess’ to help celebrate the Kitchener Chess Festival… Any excuse to hit each other with sticks(: I love the shot you took of Kayla (the blonde lady)
