Step Into The White, Bright Light
November 01, 2006
It’s hard to take good photos of my ass crack in the dark. Thus, because I needed more light to illuminate the furry crevices of my body, I went by Canadian Tire to stare into their light fixtures until my retinas ached with longing. Two hours later, I went home carrying a hefty box.
“You bought construction lights for the living room?” Laura asked.
“They output 1000 watts of light!”
“Are you insane?”
“They were on sale for $29.99. I’d be insane not to get them.”
I assembled the worklights, squealing with girlish delight. When I turned them on, their blinding intensity turned our modest living room into a construction zone.
I expressed my excitement to Laura by amplifying my squealing — the 1000 watts of light were all I needed to take crisp photos of various anatomical structures. And getting the construction lights from Canadian Tire worked out better than I expected. You see, a photography store would’ve charged several hundreds more for the same lumen output. That’s because photography stores are run by assholes.

also, i agree that photo stores are run by assholes (especially bent’s), but i think the reason the lights cost more is cause the bulbs are white balance corrected to a certain temperature. not that essential of course if you’re going to shoot raw and don’t mind using a grey card.

Luckily, I look nothing like Cousin Larry, and we’re not related in any way either, hehe. Otherwise though, somedays the similarities in our interactions are pretty hard to deny, or to try not to laugh about!
