Meet Ryder, The Dog Who Has All The Intensity Of A Barbaric Tribe
January 13, 2007
So the other day we adopted Ryder the dog. We weren’t really sure we wanted to bring a feral beast into our lives, but that night when we went by the shelter to see her, crazy Ryder started chewing everything she could fit in her mouth: clipboards, chairs, curtains, concrete. “Oh, that’s so cute,” we said. “Let’s bring her into our apartment so she can destroy our lives.”
We filled out the adoption forms right on the spot. She’s coming home tonight and we are looking forward to several months of coming home to find poop on the floor and furniture and electronics collapsed into a smouldering pile.
I’m kinda excited about the whole thing. So is Laura. She already set down ground rules for dealing with the dog. Rule number 1: no peanut butter on the penis.

Well that sure takes the fun out of things.

Posted by: deaner on January 13, 2007 at 05:42 PMMy advice to you is to invest in Nylabones. They last forever and taste much better than furniture (I have, evidently, chewed on both). Mulder went through a stage last year where he would chew on chairs to get attention (while I was drunk and sitting in them) and the nylabones completely fixed that. I think the bitter spray that I sprayed on all the chairs probably helped as well, but I have learned (with my cat) that bitter spray does not always work so a back up plan is sometimes needed.
Hooray for dogs!
Congratulations on the adoption. I don’t have any advice since I had no experience with dogs only cats. I am sure you two will be good parents :-)
