Smell is a Sexy Thing

February 21, 2007

Laura’s clothes detergent has the overwhelming aroma of sun-drenched fields and freshness (you know, all the sweet stuff detergent commercials are made of). I enjoy the way her detergent makes my underwear feel. So this weekend, hoping to impart the same level of freshness to the dog’s blankets, she washed them. Twice.

It seemed like a good idea. The dog loved it too — she rolled around on her clean blankets underwear like a hyperactive toddler eating a jarful of candy.

But when I returned from work late the next day, I found that the dog suddenly smelled like fresh laundry. It was disturbing. She smelled so clean and fresh and sun-drenched that I wanted desperately to rub her against my crotch, like a clean pair of underwear.
