I was sure this time we were ready

So I said, “Remember how we camped out in Elora on the May long weekend years ago and simply froze to death in the rain? Wanna do it again this year?”

She said, “Not really.”

“It will be awesome,” I said. “We’ll run up to Tobermory. There the air is fresh, infinite, and it tickles your lungs in delicious ways.”

She said something about not wanting to freeze, I assured her we wouldn’t, so we took off with the dog and our sleeping bags and our thirst to see new lands.

And of course, we froze to death. The weather this long weekend was hell. By Sunday night the windchill dropped the temperature to sub-zero. We were prepared for everything but the wind coming off the deep, cold lakes.

“I want to go home early,” I said.

“This was your idea,” she said. “We’ll stay here and suffer.”

“I have seven layers on and I’m still shivering.”

“Next year I get to pick our trips,” she said.

But besides the nights of frozen agony in wet tents, the days were pretty awesome. The puppy really liked it too.
