Ryder — Getting into Trouble on Teh Internets
September 15, 2009
So apparently Ryder has been scamming people on teh internets in her spare time. She seems to prefer victimizing the Poles much in the same way the Nigerians prefer victimizing us. She’s got a secret identity and everything. Goes by the code name Luna.
I’m attaching below the Facebook message I received today from someone in Poland. Any advice on dealing with this would be handy. Should I ground Ryder from accessing teh internets? Monitor her Facebook activity?
Regaarrding: dog Ryder - big troubleHello,
I’m writing to you on behalf of Dogomania.pl - one of the biggest Polish web
portals for stray dogs’ rescue and adoption. As the group of volunteers we
arrange vet service, collect money, look for foster caretakers, and arrange
charity events and fundraisings for dogs in need. We co-operate with many
pet shelters and organizations. So far we’ve been lucky enough to save
countless number of dogs’ and cats’ lives. The sad thing is that recently we’ve all been terribly cheated. Marta
Chmielewska, citizen of Poland, downloaded a few pictures of hurt or sick
dogs from the Internet (including photos of sick Ryder) and started collecting money for their treatment. The range of this fraud is unbelieveable: a lot of people helped to spread the fundraising for those dogs. We’re talking about real money here, this was a country-wide campaign. She posted your dog’s pictures on our message board and asked for help. She
also provided us with a fake list of expenses (medicines, medical surgery,
private caretaker, etc.). Finally, we were told the dog had found a new home
and is now living peacefully with some family in Poland. We want to bring this case to the court, and this is where we need your
help. What you can do to help us is send us a declaration, in which you’d
confirm following statements:-you are the legal owner of this dog (full name of the owner required)
-your dog has never been to Poland, hasn’t been treated in Poland, hasn’t
undergone any surgeries in Poland
-Marta Chmielewska, citizen of Poland was never involved in the treatment of
your dog
-you didn’t receive any money from Marta Chmielewska or Monika Chmielewska
-you didn’t ask Marta and Monika Chmielewska to collect money for you nor
help in any way with your dog’s treatmentWe may need such a statement as a corpus delicti. An investigation of this case
will probably be launched soon, and we want to have it in case we’d have to provide the court and the police with evidence that no connection has ever been made between Marta Chmielewska and you.You can write your statement as a .pdf or Word file and then send it to me.
By posting these pictures on our message board Marta Chmielewska broke the international copyright law. If you wish, you can report this to your local police.
This is Ryder in Polish web portals.
I do hope you’ll be kind enough to help us. We’re all terribly shocked now,
so much money has been wasted when we could’ve use it helping dogs in need.
This fraud will be brought to court and I hope we can get at least some of
our money back.I’m looking forward to hear from you.
My Polish is kinda rusty. Can someone help translate some relevant passages on the forum? Sweet!

Posted by: Jason on September 16, 2009 at 12:36 AMThis is just a technical bit, but if their courts are like ours, you’ll need to print out and swear your Statutory Declaration in front of a Commissioner of Oaths and send them an original in order for a court to accept it. Passing that along in case time is potentially an issue :)
Posted by: Tina on September 16, 2009 at 01:38 PMRyder gets into all sorts of trouble, doesn’t she? Thus the problem with the internet. People can easily steal whatever they wish with little risk of getting caught. Normally I would say don’t do anything since you had nothing to do with it, but she was stealing money from doggies. I wouldn’t go really out of the way to help, but at least send him the stuff he wants if it’ll help the court case.
Posted by: Sarah on October 02, 2009 at 11:38 AMYeah, it’s absolutely tragic when people steal from puppies. Or from poor people. It’s like the lowest of the low. I replied back, but because the amounts involved are so tiny (about $200 in this case), I doubt any court of law anywhere would be able to do much despite how outraged we all feel.
